Aria wanted to find her mate, not enter a competition of her own pack's Alpha holds because he has given up finding his mate. After being harassed by rogues, Aria is forced into the competition where everyone is lying. Everyone has their secrets and they all start to reveal one by one. Aria is determined to complete the mission the rogues have given to her and leave the Alpha manor, but Alpha Malik pays special interest towards her, which doesn't make anything easier for her.
As the fifth book in the Alpha - series this one contained much fewer connections to the other books than the first, second, and third books. I haven't read the fourth yet. All the books in this series can be read as standalones, but I truly recommend reading them all.
Those of you who are familiar with The Selection - series, yes, the beginning is pretty much the same. It bothered me a lot at first, but after you get over the part, it gets better and you almost forget that it ever happened.
The main character, Aria, dreams of love. She just wants to find it since she hasn't gotten any from her family. When the news of the competition arrives, Aria tries to stay away from it, loathing the entire idea of competing for the Luna's role. She tries to be the strong and independent type but sometimes has to relent. There isn't much to Aria's character that is deep and you get much out of it. She portrays perfectly the plain girl from the neighbourhood who just wants to find the love of her life.
Malik, on the other hand, has much more depth in his character. He tries to show the world how he is in control of the reins, but in reality, he is far from it. Having some powerful secrets of his own, Malik tries to keep himself on top of everything. And on top of it all, he has to find a mate through a competition. Malik is not what everyone else sees from the outside. He is the teddy bear who is afraid to show his emotions and fears in public. Trying to make himself look like an Alpha is hard enough when everything he has worked on to keep silent is about to spill to the world. Not to mention the added pressure of Fate in the background.
Alpha Malik had so many twists and turns that you can't get bored reading it. Another big plus is that there is nothing extra in the book. You know, something unnecessary just to get the word count a couple thousand bigger. Malik and Aria's story is my favourite one of the Alpha - series, if thought character-wise.
All in all, I really liked the book and I recommend you to read it too!
